CPA and Shareholder
Jim graduated from the University of Michigan - Ann Arbor in May 1986 with a Bachelor of Business Administration concentration in accounting. He began his career with Ernst & Whinney and earned his CPA designation in 1988. Jim later worked in the Grand Rapids office of Deloitte Touche in their tax department. He has spent 11 years in private industry working in the manufacturing and financial service fields with the remainder of his career working in public accounting.
Jim earned his Master of Business Administration in 1993 from Grand Valley State University. He joined VBA in August 2002 and became a partner with the firm in January 2004. His expertise is in the area of taxation and small business accounting/consulting. Jim spent considerable time in industry as well as public accounting in the area of mergers and acquisitions.
He serves as Treasurer of Hearts in Step, a Christian dance academy, as well as Treasurer of EaRN Employment and Resource Network, a faith based ministry working to equip churches to assist their congregants with employment and vocational issues.
Jim was born and raised in W. Michigan and currently lives in Grand Rapids. He has four daughters and enjoys spending time with them, as well as pursuing his other interests including tinkering with vintage motorcycles, canoeing, hiking, camping and bicycling.
